What are Microgreens?

Microgreens are a type of young vegetable green, harvested when the plants are only a few inches tall and have developed their first true leaves. They are more mature than sprouts but still smaller than baby greens.

Microgreens are typically grown from a variety of vegetables and herbs, such as lettuce, kale, spinach, radish, basil, and cilantro. They have gained popularity in recent years due to their concentrated flavors, vibrant colors, and high nutritional value.

These tiny greens are packed with essential nutrients, including vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Studies have shown that microgreens can have higher nutrient levels compared to their mature counterparts. They are also known for their unique textures and flavors, which can vary greatly depending on the specific variety.

Microgreens are often used as a garnish, adding visual appeal and a burst of flavor to dishes. They can be added to salads, sandwiches, soups, stir-fries, and even smoothies. Chefs and home cooks alike appreciate microgreens for their versatility and ability to enhance the overall aesthetics and taste of a dish.

It's always a good idea to rinse them before using to remove any potential grow medium residue.

Including microgreens in your diet can be a great way to add freshness, nutritional value, and visual appeal to your meals.
